National Bank of Ethiopia Schedules First FX Auction of 2026 at $70 Million

The National Bank of Ethiopia will conduct the 14th round of the regular exchange auction tomorrow, Tuesday, January 6, 2026, offering 70 million dollars, with bid results announcement and settlement on the same date.

The last special auction held a week ago had an average weighted clearing rate of 154.4773 birr per dollar.

The January 6 auction launches the central bank’s planned foreign exchange sales for the third quarter of the Ethiopian fiscal year 2025/26, covering January to March 2026. Six bi-weekly auctions are scheduled, each offering 70 million US dollars, bringing the total for the quarter to 420 million US dollars.
