Global Insurance S.C. Completes Securities Registration with ECMA

Global Insurance S.C. has officially completed the registration of its securities with the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA). The approval, granted on June 30, 2026, marks a pivotal shift toward the standardized, regulated market environment envisioned by the national capital market reforms.

The registration of Global Insurance S.C. is conducted in strict adherence to the Public Offer and Trading of Securities Directive No. 1030/2024, a foundational regulation designed to instill investor confidence through rigorous disclosure and accountability.

By registering its securities, the company is aligning itself with the high standards of corporate governance necessitated by the Capital Markets Proclamation No. 1248/2021.

For established firms like Global Insurance S.C., which has served the Ethiopian market since 1997, this regulatory step is more than a legal formality; it is a strategic move to formalize equity and prepare for the broader integration of Ethiopia’s capital markets.

The directive mandates that all public companies regardless of their sector undergo this vetting process to ensure that investors receive accurate, material, and timely information regarding the business, its financial position, and the risks associated with the securities offered.

The ECMA has provided a transparent breakdown of the registered shares, categorizing them into two distinct groups to provide clarity for current and prospective shareholders:

  • Existing Shareholder Equity: 682,180 shares already held by current shareholders have been formally registered, providing a clear record of the company’s ownership structure under the new authority’s oversight.
  • New Capital Offering: 55,172 new shares have been approved for a rights offering, specifically earmarked for existing shareholders. This injection of capital is expected to bolster the company’s financial capacity to pursue further development and service innovation.

Before any company can consider an eventual listing on the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX), it must first satisfy the ECMA’s registration requirements.

This two-step process registration with the ECMA for transparency, and potentially listing on the ESX for liquidity is the mechanism by which Ethiopia is transitioning from a traditional, bank-led economy to a sophisticated, market-driven ecosystem.

As a reminder, this notice is issued strictly for public notification regarding regulatory compliance. It is not an endorsement of the company’s future performance, nor is it a solicitation to buy or sell shares. The ECMA’s approval confirms that the issuer has met the required disclosure and registration standards for public transparency.

The integration of established entities like Global Insurance S.C. into the formal capital market framework is essential for the long-term success of the Ethiopian Securities Exchange. As more firms follow suit, the exchange will gain the depth and variety required to attract both domestic retail investors and large-scale institutional players.
